Braves Game for United Way

The company I work for has had a relationship with the United Way since 1982.  We have been one of the largest corporate donors every year since then, and this year we are on pace to top $1 billion in total contributions.  To say it's a big deal would be an understatement.  Every year each department has 1 or more United Way coordinators.  The department I work in is pretty large, so there are 4 coordinators this year.  I was asked to be one of the 4.  This was pretty much by default though, since just about everyone else in my group has already done it at least once (except the brand new people we just hired).  We are responsible for organizing everything United Way for our department for the year.  This includes encouraging people to pledge, collecting money for "blue jean Fridays", informing people about different corporate-sponsored events, and organizing volunteer activies and fundraisers.  Last year the United Way teamfor our department organized a fundraiser at a Braves game, and it was such a big success that we decided to do it again.  So we got tickets & went to the game this past Thursday.  The other coordinators & I arrived at the Turner Field Blue Lot right when they opened so we could start setting up for our tailgate (Josh & the boys arrived later - I didn't see the need for them to be out there while we got everything set up).  Because spouses & kids were also invited, we ended up with 114 people attending the event.  We raised over $3,000 for the United Way!  So we had a fun cookout in a little picnic area in the parking lot before heading in to watch the Braves thrashing of the Padres.

We had a nice weekend too.  Zachary's friend Cameron had his birthday party yesterday afternoon.  They had an inflatable water slide, which the kids really seemed to enjoy.  Too bad a big storm rolled  in about an hour nito the party & stuck around for the next 3 hours.  Cameron's sister Addison is in Liam's class at school - here's a cute picture of the 2 of them.

Today is normally swimming lesson day.  They've had some issues with the hotel where the lessons were being held, so we've had to go out to their main location in Woodstock to finish our make-ups.  We had 6 make-ups for each of the boys, so instead of having us come out 6 more times, they offered us 3 private lessons for each of them.  They gave us private lessons last week at no charge, so today was the first of our remaining make-ups.  The teacher (who we love) decided that instead of giving them each a half-hour private lesson, she would put them together for an hour.  That was probably one of the best things she could have done!  Zachary worked really hard - he wanted to show Liam what all he could do!  He swam across the pool by himself 3 times!!  It was AMAZING!!  And then Liam saw everything Zachary did, and of course wants to be just like him.  He actually swam on his own for the first time today!  Before with him it was pretty much someone pushing him under the water, and then he'd glide to someone else (one of us was always in the water with him).  But in these private lessons, we haven't been in the water, so there hasn't been anyone for him to glide to.  Today she actually got him to push off the steps and kick his feet until he got to her.  He didn't swim far, but it was so fun to watch.  Later the boys (and Josh) gave Herschel a bath in the back yard.  Here's how I found Zachary & Liam afterwards...
