End of School Year Wrap-Up

The last few weeks of school were a whirlwind!  The school held Field Day on May 14-15.  They always do the opening ceremony on Thursday morning – the parade of countries.  It’s so cute to see all the classes come out in their country shirts.  This year Liam's class was Germany, and Zachary's class was Jamaica.

This is followed by field day activities for K-2.  So we were there to watch Liam participate in the different activities.  Things started out pretty good, until Liam and his friend Mitchell got into a little scuffle that left Liam mad, and refusing to participate.  He seemed to have gotten over it by the time they went in for lunch (but he ended up missing out on about 4 or 5 games while he pouted).  Once they came back out, he was ready to go!  They ended the day on the giant balls.  The idea is just to roll the ball down and back – but you know my kids cannot resist propelling themselves over the top of those balls.  Well, Liam did so with such force, that he ended up face-planting in the dirt, and gave himself a bloody nose.  Awesome.  We took him to the clinic, and asked him if he just wanted to go home, but he insisted on staying because they were planning to watch a movie in the afternoon.  His poor teacher.

The next day was field day for 3-5.  It is amazing the difference in speed of 4th graders doing the games vs. 1st graders.  Liam’s class really only had time to do each game once, and when they went in for lunch, they still had about 6 or 7 games to do after lunch.  Well the 4th graders were so fast, they did every game 2 or 3 times, and had finished everything by the time they went in for lunch!  Since they weren’t coming back out for more games after lunch, we left at that point (which meant we missed the closing ceremony popsicle party – oh well!)  They had a great time as well – this is one of the school events each year that I just love attending!

On 5/19, I attended Zachary’s class party.  I didn’t really get any pictures, because I was busy running one of the games.  We had several minute to win it style games set up around the classroom, along with ice cream sundaes.  It was a fun celebration to a great school year.  We were so sad to hear that his teacher will not be returning to our school next year – she was wonderful.

Then on 5/21, I attended Liam’s class party.  They had some outside relays planned – which, again, Liam refused to participate in because of something that happened between he and his friend Mitchell (let’s hope they aren’t in the same class next year!).  They were good & sweaty by the time they went back inside for the ice cream sundaes!  It was another fun party, and I’m sure his teacher, Mrs. Brutlag, was so excited for this year to be over – poor thing had the most wild class this year.

May 22 was the last day of school!  I had to do the obligatory pics before school, and then left work early enough to be there when the bus came.  I was so busy hanging up some streamers on the house that I forgot about bringing weapons to the bus stop!  Thankfully there was a neighbor there with extra cans of silly string, and extra (already filled) water guns.  She loaned me one of each, so that I could get the kids as they got off the bus.  It was so fun!  Then the boys put on their swim suits so that we could head to the pool for the ice cream/pool party!

We had a couple of fun weekend activities for right after school got out.  OK, so maybe Saturday wasn’t super fun…we were finally going to have our photo session with Corey.  We had to postpone them about a month before, due to bad weather.  This was the first day we could reschedule them for.  The boys were extra frustrating this year, but in the end, Corey came through, as usual.

Then on Sunday, we went to the Braves game.  AYBA had a ticket deal, and it was youth baseball day, so we got to walk on the field before the game.  We ran into Zachary’s coach, Coach Jamel, and his son Jayden.  Liam refused to go on the field, so he and my mom sat in the seats while we walked around the field.  We actually saw them from down on the field!  Zachary was so excited because one of the Brewers players was throwing double bubble out to the kids.

After the game, we went back home, and headed to the Albrecht’s house for a cookout.  I wouldn’t even be able to guess how many people were there, but there were A LOT.  We stayed until around 7, but then knew we had to get home and get into bed at a decent hour, because of what we had planned for the next day.  More on that in the next post!
