Last night with our dinner we made sweet potato fries – baked them in the oven. I don’t want to eat sweet potatoes every day, but they are a nice change every now & then (plus, they are apparently packed with nutrients). We sat down for dinner, and Zachary chowed down on his corn-on-the-cob and hamburger, but didn’t want to eat the fries. Our general policy on vegetable refusal at dinner is that it is fine to do so, but the veggies will show up for breakfast – and that’s what you have to eat first, before you can have anything else. He said he wanted to eat them for breakfast, so we didn’t fight him on that. So this morning, Josh was re-heating the sweet potato fries, when Zachary came over and said, “Mommy, I need to talk to you about sweet potato fries. Sweet potato fries are not the kind of fries you normally get in a restaurant.” Hmmmm…is that so?
Last night after dinner, we enjoyed the extra daylight by going outside in the backyard to play. It was SOOOO nice and we all enjoyed ourselves. I think Zachary was in a soccer mood (soccer comes to his school on Mondays), so he asked us to bring out his soccer net & ball. It’s just a little pop-up net – nothing too elaborate. Anyway, so we had the net set up, and he was playing this game where he would lay down behind the net (pretending to be a bear), and then he would have one of us kick the ball into the net, which would then wake up the bear, who would then chase us around the yard until he caught us and tackled us. It was Josh’s turn to kick the ball, and he was trying to be all fancy, kicking from all the way across the yard. He missed – twice. Zachary began to get impatient, so he says, “Daddy, it will be much easier if you move in a little closer.” I love it when he gives us tips & advice.

mmmmm, I LOVE Sweet potatoes and especially Sweet potato fries!!!
What a great idea - the veggies show up for breakfast!! HA! Is it too early to try that on a 1 year old?
Zachary is so funny! Ariyana is one of those weird kids that will eat the veggies first, every time and leave the other stuff if something has to be left...we knows how long it will last!
He usually does eat veggies, and a lot of times he eats them first too. Veggies for breakfast is something we've only had to enforce a few times (we've even had to do veggies for afternoon snack if he won't eat them at lunch). I think he's just not a huge fan of sweet potatoes, but generally, other veggies we fix, he will eat without complaining.
That is too funny! Glad he is enjoying soccer!
