We knew of a few people who were going to be down there the
same time we were, and of course we didn't see any of them. But the day we were at Animal Kingdom,
Zachary saw a boy from his class, and they ended up riding one ride together
(with the other boy’s mom). Then the
morning we were at Hollywood Studios, while we were waiting for the park to
open, we saw another boy Zachary knows from school. We also saw some neighbors in Epcot one
evening. And then Liam ran into a girl
from his class while we were on the cruise.
It really is a small world!
We were REALLY proud of Liam on this trip. Not only for riding some rides when he was
really scared (even though we sort of pushed him to, initially), but he was
also nervous about doing the Jedi Training Academy. Zachary has done this each of our past 2
trips, and was really excited about it again.
Liam was signed up on our last trip, but chickened out at the last
minute. So we signed them both up again,
and kept telling Liam that it wasn't really Darth Vader – it was just a man in
a costume. I think that helped. He went up on the stage with the other kids
in his group (including Zachary) and he did everything they said and did such a
good job! We were so proud of him! He really did some brave things and got out
of his comfort zone a little bit. He
also did plenty of sitting out of rides he was too scared to ride, and that was
OK too. But I think he got a little bit
over his fear of fast rides by riding Test Track and Space Mountain twice, and
he also went on the Aqua Duck on the cruise ship a few times.
We had more dessert in that week than we would
normally have in about 3 months. We had
the Quick Service dining plan again, which is nice, because the meals are
basically pre-paid. But we’re starting
to re-think whether it’s really worth it.
Especially since by the next time we go, Zachary will be 10 (meaning,
paying full adult price, and no longer eating from the kids menu). He eats a lot sometimes, but he can’t eat a
full adult entrée. We’re thinking we
could save some money by splitting meals, and skipping dessert. Nobody needs dessert twice a day, but it
comes with your meal on the dining plan, so we felt compelled to get it. The 5 of us would share the 3 desserts, but
still. We’re thinking we could save some
money by sharing meals and skipping dessert, and not doing the dining plan.
Liam discovered his first loose tooth a few days before we
left. I thought for sure we would have
to deal with the Tooth Fairy while on this trip. We even got a celebration button at check in
for when the tooth came out (it said “I’m celebrating 1st lost
tooth”), and while out shopping that first day we arrived, I found a little box
we could put the tooth in to leave for the Tooth Fairy. Wouldn't you know it – that darn tooth hung on for the whole week! Josh had even tried a few
times to see if we could get it out, but it was no use - it stayed pretty secure until after we got back home.
I'll wrap up the trip in the next post!
