Baseball Bonanza - 7U Yankees

Here is an update on Liam’s 7U Yankees.

On 3/7, the Yankees beat the Cardinals 15-7.  This was the day after Liam was diagnosed with strep, but he was like a brand new kid, ready to play!  They didn't score any runs in the 1st inning.  In fact, the Cardinals got a triple play on the Yankees.  This game was a little rough, defensively.  But Liam got 2 singles, which was great.  Once they scored 5 runs (the max) in the 3rd inning, that pretty much sealed the win.

On 3/12, the Yankees beat the Red Sox 17-8.  This game was a little iffy because of the weather.  We watched the majority of the game in a drizzle.  In this game, one of Liam’s teammates – a boy named CJ – hit a home run.  And I don’t mean he hit it to the outfield and the other team did a bad job fielding.  No, he hit a legit home run OVER THE FENCE.  His dad was taking a video, and the ball came right to him, and he caught the ball.  Wow.  In all our years of youth baseball, I've never seen a kid hit it over the fence.  It was quite amazing.  Liam got a couple more hits, which is always fun to watch.

On 3/20, the Yankees beat the Mets 11-0.  Zachary & I were a little late getting to this game, since we had come from karate.  We missed the first couple of innings, but the score was 8-0 after 3 innings.  In the 4th inning, Liam came up to bat.  It was 10-0, and Liam’s hit drove in the 11th run – that was enough to end the game after only playing for about 43 minutes (time limit is typically 1 hour & 15 minutes, or 6 innings, whichever comes first).  But They were up by 11 with just 2 innings left, so there was no way the Mets could win.

On 3/21, the Yankees beat the Royals 20-12.  This game included the first time the Yankees were ever down in a game.  It was brief though – only lasted 1 inning.  And this time the Yankees were the ones to make the triple play!  This team played tough – they tried to rally a couple of times, but they would up winning, again, because of math.  Liam is still hitting pretty good.  He had a bomb to right field that could have easily been a double, but the kid on base in front of him stopped running after just one base, so Liam was stuck at first.  Hopefully someone will coach the other boy to pay attention to the 3rd base coach in case he needs to keep running.

On 3/25, the Yankees beat the Dodgers 14-8. The Dodgers are coached by Matt Cozad, who was one of Zachary's coaches from last year.

On 3/28, the Yankees beat the Orioles 15-9 in a late game.  It was the Liam McCavitt show - he hit an over-the-fence grand slam, had an unassisted double play, made diving catches...he was all over the place!

On 3/29, the Yankees beat the Braves 16-5. This was the first of their make-up games, and it was FAST. This game was over in 35 minutes!!
