Fun on the Farm

This past Saturday, my mom and I took the boys to Cagle's Farm & Corn Maze.  I'm a little behind on this, but I wanted to include some pictures, and what with the late Georgia game Saturday night & the Yo Gabba Gabba show on Sunday (and then me leaving for a business trip to Louisville, KY Monday through today), I just did not have time to upload pictures.

So...here we go with our fun on the farm!  Cagle's Farm is only about 15-20 minutes from my house, in Canton, GA.  We've gone to do their corn maze the last couple of years, but that's really ll we'd ever done.  This year my mom & I decided to add the farm tour.  Cagle's was apparently once a fully operational dairy farm, but I think now it's just tours - they don't produce milk for local people anymore.  When we first arrived, we decided to start with the corn maze, since that was the main reason we had gone.

After the maze, we set off on the farm tour.  It was long (about an hour in all), but it was pretty neat.  We started with a milking demonstration.  That ended with them letting kids (or adults) stick their fingers into the milking machine to see what it feels like inside.  For some reason Zachary & Liam did not want to do that...

After the milking demonstration, we saw the milk proessing area.  The machine wasn't actually working, but we got to see the tanks that the raw milk would go into for the pasteurization process, all the way up through bottling.

Next we went on a hayride.  It wasn't terribly scenic, but halfway through the ride we ended up in the middle of a big field, where a guy pulled up in a Jeep with a border collie in the back.  The dog herded about 4 or 5 cows who were off in a far corner of the field, right up to the hayride!

Following the hayride, we made a stop to feed some goats and baby cows.

And last but not least, it wouldn't be a trip to Cagle's without a stop on the jumping pillow.  It was about lunchtime (and also naptime for Liam) and he hadn't been behaving very nice towards the end of the tour, so my mom sat with him while Zachary took a quick jump on the giant pillow.  We decided it was the year for him to graduate from the toddler pillow to the BIG one.

It was a fun day on the farm, and I'm glad we have something like this so close to home, since a lot of our other fall activities (apple picking, pumpkin farm, fair, Georgia football games, etc,) are so far from home.
