March Catch-Up: Visit to KC

I feel like I’ve gotten a little behind in March. That’s what being cooped up in the house with the flu for a week will do for you! In addition to not getting to come home after work/school & just *be* for a while. Zachary has 1 weekday baseball game and 1 weekday practice each week (in addition to his Saturday games and Sunday practices). Plus, when baseball doesn’t conflict, there’s karate twice a week too. It’s really making me stop to enjoy the fact that Liam is still just 3, and we have this year plus one more year before we even need to think about what our lives will be like if we have 2 kids playing baseball.

Anyway, this past Sunday my mom & I got on a plane for Kansas City. After hearing (more than once) that my grandfather out there just isn’t doing too great, we decided we needed to get on a plane and see him. We would have loved to have taken the boys, but it just wasn’t feasible this time. It was just a quick trip. We arrived Sunday late morning and headed over to where my grandparents live. We met my grandmother (Grammy) and then we all headed over to the Care Center where Grandpa is these days. We had a nice lunch in the dining room there, and then went back up to his room to visit. Unfortunately my Grandpa slept most of the time, but we had a nice chat with Grammy. A little later my (great) Aunt Mary and Barbara came over. Later on we headed out with them for the best BBQ I have ever had in my whole life. If you ever find yourself in KC, please go get BBQ at Jack Stack’s BBQ – you will not regret it. We took a catalog and plan to order some food shortly…Monday morning we woke up to SNOW! We were out in the freezing, snowy weather, while everyone back home was living it up in the 74 degree sunny weather. Not fair. We went over & visited with Grammy in her apartment some more before heading back over to see Grandpa once more before we left. We took some time to show them videos of the boys on our laptop, and take some pictures with them. It was a nice visit, and I’m so glad we got to go.

Then yesterday I dropped off a bunch of the boys’ old clothes (primarily through size 2T, since Liam can still wear everything else) for the consignment sale. The sale starts Friday – wish me luck! It’s my first attempt at consigning so hopefully it will be worth all the effort.
