A Picnic Playdate & Other Miscellaneous Thoughts

We had a fun picnic playdate. A while back we got together with my friend Melissa & her husband & daughter at a park for a picnic/playdate. It was so much fun (MUCH less stressful than meeting for dinner at a restaurant, and even less stressful in a way than meeting at one of our houses - no need to clean or worry about breaking the other person's stuff). So we decided to do it again yesterday. This time, though, we also invited our friend Karlyn & her husband & son, as well as our friend Rusty & his wife & brand new baby daughter. The 4 of us have been friends for a while (Melissa & I go back to first grade, and then we picked up Karlyn & Rusty in middle school), so it is always fun to catch up. The kids had a great time playing on the playground, and then we brought out our picnic dinners & had a good time.

I also need to vent about our oh-so-cute baby birds. They are not so cute anymore. Yesterday I discovered a whole mess of bird poo on our front porch RIGHT UNDER the nest. Nice. So apparently they have just been hanging their butts over the edge & dropping right onto the porch. As cute & sweet as it has been to have baby birds being born on our porch, we're thinking that as soon as we are confident that these baby birds have moved on (and there are no new eggs up there), the nest will be removed & something will go in its place to ensure that no more nests get built up there. After all, our porch is not a toilet.

We had some excitement this morning. We were getting ready for church when we heard a rumbling outside. It sounded like a big truck of some sort. I peeked out the window and discovered it was a fire truck. I'm not sure if all kids are fascinated by firetrucks or just boys, but as soon as I said "firetruck!" Zachary & Liam headed right for the front door. To their delight it stopped right next door. There were no visible flames, so we're not sure why they called the fire department (kitchen fire maybe?). And apparently 911 must have gotten confused as to who to send because a Milton firetruck showed up first, and a couple of minutes later an Alpharetta one showed up (which, we are technically in Milton now, so it was somewhat reassuring to see that Milton responded first). We saw the family walk outside as we pulled out for church, so we assume everything is OK.

Don't you just love how boys get excited over vehicles?!! Owen loves seeing school buses, firetrucks, police cars, etc. while we're in the car. So fun being a kid!
