This morning was the big day - kindergarten open house! It feels like everyone else that we know has already gone back to school - some weeks ago. And we hadn't even had the chance to go meet Zachary's teacher yet. But today was the day. We got to the school, and went to the media center where they had posted all of the class lists for last names A-K. We were able to see from the list that Zachary's friend Cameron was not in his class, but his friends William and Lilly were in his class. The other kids we know have last names L-Z, and those lists were posted somewhere else, so we couldn't see whose classes they were in. We found his classroom, and made our way in. His teacher is Mrs. Jones, and she seems really nice. We also felt reassured when we found out that she's been teaching for a long time (in fact, I found out that she apparently taught the mother of one of Zachary's friends, when she was in kindergarten!). I spent the first 20 or so minutes that we were there filling out the different forms, while Josh helped Zachary with the little scavenger hunt that she had set up. It was designed to help him get acquainted with the room. He was definitely a little nervous though, but I think when he started seeing his friends in the school that he started to get a little more comfortable. We ran into 4 friends just in passing in the hallway, and then his friend William came into the classroom while we were there, and so that was fun.

We could not get him to smile for the picture! I think it was all just a little overwhelming for him, but hopefully it won't take him long to get into the swing of things.
Tomorrow is the start of my 2-day staycation with Zachary. We'll have to see what the 2 days hold for us! More school stuff coming the next 2 days as well - Back to School night at Zachary's school tomorrow, and Parent's Night at Liam's school on Friday. Life was so much easier when they both went to the same school!
Also, please say a little prayer for one of our neighbors. I don't even know her name, but we've seen them in passing in the neighborhood over the last couple of years that they've lived here. She just had their first baby 2 weeks ago (I think it's a girl), and we found out today that her husband died in a car accident over the weekend. I don't really even know them, but my heart is broken for her & their daughter, who will never have the chance to know her daddy. It is just so tragic.

Glad Zachary likes his class and teacher! It does feel like everyone else has started! We finally start next week with open house Monday. The rest of the week is a slow staggered start until Friday when the whole class is there for the entire day! woo hoo!
