A couple of weeks ago Zachary tested for his brown belt in karate again. This was his second time testing for brown belt. We found out that he passed the test, but unfortunately, we couldn't go to the graduation, because it was the same day & time as the baseball camp this past weekend. So he got his belt on Tuesday when he went to class. Brown belt is a big deal - it's only 3 belts away from black belt, and so the expectations are pretty high. The karate school is owned by a couple, and the wife was the one who taught the classes at his old daycare, where he first started taking karate. Even she was getting a little sentimental about him getting a brown belt! This was also the first new belt Zachary has gotten from the new instructor, so that was also kind of a neat thing.
Before Zachary went to bed, we added his advanced red belt to his belt board. This is something we saw in the Dojo one time, so we asked for specific dimensions to make our own. This makes for a really cool visual of what 4 years of hard work looks like. Hard to believe he's on his 15th belt now! We are so proud of Zachary! Brown belt is a big accomplishment, but I also think it's another accomplishment to have stuck with something for half his life now! He started karate when he was 4, so it's pretty amazing that he has stuck with it for this long.
