Evan Gattis Baseball Camp

Back in June while we were at the beach, I got an email about a baseball camp at Wills Park, with instruction from Evan Gattis and former Braves pitcher Greg McMichael.  We asked Zachary if he was interested, and he was, so we signed him up.  The camp was this past Saturday morning.  They started off with some warm-ups, and were then put into groups by ages.  There were about 12 8-year-olds, which was nice, because there was generally time for individual pointers.

They did several different outfield drills, some hitting, infield drills, and they each got pitching instruction from Greg McMichael.  I think it's safe to say that Zachary doesn't have a future as a pitcher...

In the hitting & infield portion, two of the Fox Sports South girls came over to the field the 8 year olds were on and they participated in the drills too.  I'm thinking that if this were about 5 years from now, Zachary might have a different expression on his face!

Evan Gattis arrived about halfway through the camp and got right down to business signing autographs.  If you had bought the camp upgrade, it came with an autographed ball (which we got).

Then they had a chance to hit in front of Gattis, and then go talk to him.  I think Zachary was a little starstruck, because when we asked him what they talked about, all he said was that he told him his name and that we were going to the Braves game that night.

Once all the baseball was finished, Greg McMichael was available for autographs and pictures (and Zachary had also gotten an autographed Jordan Schafer baseball card too).  Then there was also an opportunity for photos with Gattis.

Everything was run really well - it all went super fast, but it was well-run.  Even though Zachary didn't know anyone else there, he said he had fun and would like to do something like this again.  It was cool for us to, to see Zachary get to have an experience like that!
