Picnics & Dinosaurs (but not at the same time...)

We had a fun rest of the weekend after t-ball on Saturday morning. Both kids were pretty much wiped out after the morning (and we were only there for about an hour & 15 minutes!), so naptime wasn’t a problem. In fact, Liam fell asleep in the car on the way home, and it was less than a 2 minutes drive. We had a hard time waking him up, but he finally came around & was able to play for a little bit before lunchtime. After they woke up from their naps we headed out to Harrison Park in Marietta to meet some friends. Melissa & I have been friends since first grade, and her birthday was last week, so we decided to get our families together for a picnic. Her daughter is 4 & ½, so she & Zachary had a great time playing together, specifically hide & seek. Liam enjoyed toddling around, trying to climb UP the slides & laughing at the other two. The weather was perfect for a picnic and we had a really good time. We decided that we need to do more picnics like that with friends (especially when the kids are involved). It was much less stressful because we didn’t have to worry if the kids were being loud, or if they wanted to get up & walk around, or we also didn’t have to worry about food taking a long time to come out…it just made it more pleasant for everyone.

This week’s theme at the boys’ school is Dinosaurs. While we were eating dinner last night, Zachary told us that one of his teachers had told them that the dinosaurs are all dead, and that we can’t see their skin anymore, just their bones. I asked him if he knew what “dead” meant, and he didn’t. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t really have a good explanation for him either, so after a few moments of listening to crickets chirp, we moved on. Josh told him that they are “extinct”, which means they aren’t here anymore. A few minutes later Zachary started talking about dinosaurs again, and he said, “Well, if dinosaurs are distinkus, it means they’re dead.” DISTINKUS??? I almost tripped over myself when he said it because it was so funny. It’s amazing how you can say a word, and then kids will go to repeat it and it sounds nothing like what you said.
