The Great Road Trip of 2013 - part 2

Last Thursday was our first full day in PA.  We had decided to head into Philadelphia, and go to the Franklin Institute, which is a sort of science museum.  It was pretty cool - they had an exhibit about the human body, one about trains, a planetarium, one about electricity, and many more.  We didn't even see everything there, because it was a ZOO.  It was apparently THE place to be on a summer camp field trip that day, and it was crazy.  After a couple of hours, I think we'd all had enough of dealing with it, so we left.  We did get to see a show in the planetarium about wild weather in our solar system, which Liam said was scary, but the rest of us thought was pretty cool.

They had an area where you could be the weather person - I had on a green shirt, and this is what happened

The giant heart - it was big enough that you could go inside it.  The idea is that you follow the same path that blood follows as it moves through your heart and lungs.

I love that my silly boy (Zachary) decided to wear a Braves shirt the day we ventured into Phillies country.

After we left the museum, we headed over to Pat's for lunch.  Even though we went there the last time we had cheeseteaks in Philly, we had to go back.  They're just so good!  The boys shared a pizza steak, while I had mine the regular way - with cheese whiz!  Josh went with provolone on his.

After lunch, we had one more stop before heading back to Josh's parents' house.  In our searching for things to do in Philadelphia with kids, we came across a place called the Franklin Fountain - an old timey soda fountain that had the most amazing sounding menu.  And it turns out, it was featured on an episode of Man vs. Food once.  We found the episode on YouTube, and we were sold.  So off to the Franklin Fountain we went.  We got 2 sundaes to share and oh. my. goodness. It was pure deliciousness.  It's really small inside, and there's no indoor seating, so we had to sit outside (and it was brutally hot there that day).  So we had to eat fast before our sundaes turned into soup.  The boys split one called the Franklin Mint - it was basically mint chocolate chip & vanilla ice cream, with chocolate sauce & marshmallow cream, topped with mint syrup and whip cream.  Josh & I shared one called the Stock Market Crunch.  It was rocky road ice cream with peanut butter sauce, and pieces of pretzel.  I believe all their ice creams are homemade, and oh my word was it good.  If you are ever in Philadelphia, make this part of your plan.
