Last night we went to the Colt Family Sock Hop & Basket Raffle at Zachary's school. The event basically had 2 parts - the Sock Hop and the Basket Raffle (duh). The Sock Hop was in the cafeteria - they had pizza & Chick-fil-A for dinner, and they had a DJ playing music. Some of the older girls wore poodle skirts, but for the most part, kids looked to just be wearing whatvere they probably had on at school. We had some pizza for dinner and chatted with some other families we know, before heading to the gym, where they had the Basket Raffle set up. For the Basket Raffle, each class put together a themed basket. All of the baskets were then raffled off - $1/ticket, and you could buy as many as you wanted, and put however many into the baskets you were interested in. Zachary's class did a garden basket - one of the moms donated a crape myrtle tree, and then they used the class donations to buy gardening supplies and gift cards to nurseries. There were several baskets with iPods, a Lego basket, one with a Nintendo DSi and games, some with just cash, a couple with a bunch of restaurant gift cards, one with a Disney trip, a tennis basket, a couple with Kindles, one with 2 round-trip AirTran tickets...they were pretty amazing. Needless to say, I don't think we won anything. We left before they did the raffle part, but nobody called us today, so we assume that means we didn't win.
Anyway, so the big & little part...sometimes when we're at home I just feel that Zachary is SO big. Like, grown-up big. Especially compared to Liam...Zachary just seems so tall & grown-up sometimes. But as we were making our way around the school last night for the event, we saw a lot of older kids running around the school. They were HUGE, and they would run through a crowd in groups, bumping into parents & smaller kids (and not really seeming to care - as long as they got where they were going). And that was when I realized that Zachary is still little. Whew. He's not as big as I feared. But then it hit me - he's about 4 years away from being one of those BIG boys. Sigh...It really is hard to imagine him that big. It's even hard to imagine Liam as big as Zachary is now - and that's coming up before we know it too. So I'm going to enjoy going to things like this now, where the boys still want to hang close to us - because before long, they're just going to give us a wave & run off with their friends.
