On April 20 (after our 3 baseball game marathon), we headed over to Zachary's school for their spring carnival. Originally it had been planned for the day before, but the weather was looking dicey, so earlier in the week the school had made the decision to postpone to Saturday. It was a beautiful day for it! When we bought the tickets, the carnival was still scheduled for Friday evening. We thought we'd only be able to stay for an hour or so, since Zachary had a baseball game. Then they moved it to Saturday, and even though we could have stayed a little longer, we stayed until the tickets ran out, then we headed out for dinner. Of course the boys complained a little bit, but it had been a long day (in addition to the 3 baseball games, Zachary, Josh, and I had gotten haircuts that morning, AND they made a trip over to the farmers market). So we were all ready to sort of call it a day. (Note that they are both wearing their baseball uniforms since we came straight from the park!)

On April 23, before we headed over to Zachary's baseball game, we stopped off at Crabapple Crossing for the Kindergarten Round-Up. I can't believe it's Liam's turn for this! It seems like it was just a year ago that we were bringing Zachary to it. Since we had to head to the park for Zachary's game, we didn't get to do the full tour. This was OK, because Liam has been in & around the school so much in the last 3 years, that he had already seen places like the gym, cafeteria, etc. So we spent most of our time in a couple of the classrooms - we went in one, and then we went down the hall to see if Mrs. Jones (Zachary's kindergarten teacher) was there - she was! A couple other families came in while we were in there, that had older kids who were in her class for kindergarten, and now had younger siblings coming up. It would be so funny for Liam to be in a class with a younger sibling of one of Zachary's friends. We also ran into his friend Benjamin from school (unfortunately for Liam, Benjamin is going into first grade, so no chance of them being in the same class). I think he's excited, though it was a little hard to tell. After we left Mrs. Jones's class, we went to the cafeteria for a cookie and juice, and then to check out the parked school bus. It turns out that one of the buses parked there was our bus! So Liam also got to meet our bus driver. It was pretty cool that the bus driver knew Zachary (who wasn't with us - he was already at the park warming up for his game). I'm glad for Liam that he will have Zachary there with him next year.
On April 26, Liam's school held their international festival, Love Around the World. Each class is assigned a continent, and leading up to the event, they learn about the different countries in that continent, as well as prepare a performance relating to the continent. Parents are asked to bring in artifacts from that continent, as well as food. This is Liam's third Love Around the World - he refused to participate the past 2 years, so it was a bit up in the air as to what he would do this year. To our delight, HE PARTICIPATED! Of course, he didn't get to participate in the dancing portion (I'm thinking his teacher didn't trust that he would actually do it), and then she stuck him in the far back corner for the singing part...but he was there, and he sang his heart out. I was so happy!
Finally, on April 27, we had another busy day. The day started early, with the Colt Cup Fun Run at Crabapple Crossing. This race had originally been scheduled before spring break, but it got postponed due to bad weather. K-2 ran 1 mile (2 laps around the school), and grades 3-5 ran 2 miles (4 laps around the school). This was Zachary's first ever race. Before they had made it sound like the older kids would do their 2 mile run, then the younger kids would start the 1 mile run afterwards. Instead, they just lined everyone up at once, with the older kids in front, and younger kids in the back. The last thing the PE teacher told them before they took off was "Don't run too fast early on". As soon as they said "Go", there goes Zachary, sprinting out to a fast start. Sigh...We were positioned at the start/finish line, so we couldn't see what was going on the rest of the run, but it was so exciting as they rounded the 2nd lap, seeing Zachary come running in 4th place! I don't know how many boys were in his age group (K-2), but I do know there were at least 11 (because one of his friends came in 11th place). He was tired and winded when he finished (it was really humid from the overnight rain, and he'd had croup earlier in the week), but he did it. We were so proud of him!
(he is running here, even though the photo looks like he's walking)

After the race, we headed to the park for Liam's baseball game. Zachary & I left after 2 innings to head to the Y for the kids Mud Run - a .8 mile trail run with obstacles. The day before, I had gotten an email that said that his group would go off around 11:15. We arrived at the Y at 10:35, so we would have plenty of time to figure out where to go, and get settled. They told us that his group would be going off at 10:45 - whoa, good thing we got there early. So we headed down to the starting line, and I asked someone if that was the 10:45 group lining up. He said "That group already went - this is the next group". Ummmm...according to the email, he wasn't even supposed to go until 11:15, and here I find out that we've basically missed his group. It didn't seem terribly organized, or strict, so he just set off with that group. And much like the race earlier in the morning, we couldn't really watch them run. They took off into the woods, and ran to an open field. In the field, they went through a few different obstacles, but then came back into the woods, and it just wasn't possible to follow. So we all headed back to the start/finish line to wait for them to come back through. When he showed back up, I was confused - he wasn't muddy at all! I had even gone out earlier in the week and bought him all new stuff from Wal-Mart in case he got SO muddy that we just wanted to trash his clothes...and here he was, not muddy at all. I think he was even a little bummed at the lack of mud. He says he had fun, but I know he wished there had been more mud.

After his 2 fun runs that morning, he had a 2-hour baseball practice that afternoon. Somehow he still had the energy to run around the back yard throwing a football around later on. I have no idea where it comes from. But I know he slept well that night!
