Flag Football

Last year we had signed Zachary up for a winter flag football league.  It was perfect, because it didn't start until after the college football season was over (so it wasn't going to conflict with the Georgia games), and it was over by the time his baseball season would start.  But they didn't get enough kids, so they had to cancel it.  He’s been asking about doing flag football ever since.  So a few weeks ago, when another mom was telling me at the pool that they had signed their son up for a flag football leave that meets only on Sundays, I immediately asked where I could sign Zachary up.  Our major issue with fall sports is because there’s usually going to be a game on Saturday, and because we make a substantial investment to have the Georgia football season tickets, we don’t want to be in a position where we can’t go to the games, because someone has a baseball game on Saturday or football or soccer or whatever.  So we have typically avoided fall sports.  But this league meets for 2 hours every Sunday – the first hour is drills and teaching, and the second hour is a game.  Last Sunday was the first day, and as if we hadn't gotten hot enough on Saturday at the Georgia game, we probably got even hotter at flag football.  The league meets in the Milton High School football stadium, and there is no shade at all in there.  This first week they spent the whole time doing different drills to help them with speed & agility, as well as some flag football fundamentals (pulling flags, catching, etc.)  Zachary was pretty bummed that they didn't get to do a game the first week, but he did know a few kids there, so that was good.  We had to miss yesterday because we went to the Falcons game (and because of his broken pinky), but hopefully he’ll be back this weekend, ready to go!
